I recently got a dell computer (4600) with 512 mb of ram. While I would certainly like an extra 512 in there, it will cost me about 95 bucks cause it uses memory pair method (you need two exact memory modules).

This is probably a dumb question, but do you think the prices of the DDR PC3200 ram for the dell systems will be going down in the future? I am in no huge need of the memory right now and could wait until it drops to get some (I am fine with playing HL2 on medium quality). I know I should post this in the dell forums, but I wanna get anandtechs opinion on this.

You don't have to buy ram from Dell for it to work in a Dell.

I had that system and had Kingston ram running it along with the ram Dell already had in it. It all ran dual channel. Just make sure whatever you buy it is single sided, as that is what Dell puts in there.

Thing is to remember, Dell motherboards run the ram at Cas 3, so buy the least expensive name brand memory that you can.

Buying "overclocking" or low catency memory would be a waste of money.

BTW, this is the ram I had in there.

I know you dont have to buy it from dell to get it, the price I was getting was from crucial. This is a better price though, about 10 bucks cheaper.

Dell says "use only their mem" but you can feel confident installing your own as long as the cas is 3 like was stated. Its actually an intel mobo with Dells name on it :)

There is cheaper ram you can get, but I always will pay a few extra bucks to stay with name brand ram.
