Question about power supply

Hello. I have the Dell OptiPlex 990DT, I think it has like a 240w power supply. I cant remember if its 240 250 or 260 but im pretty sure its one of those 3. I want to upgrade my video card though, the one I have in mind is nvidia GTX 750 Ti. However on the newegg page it says it needs a minimum of 300w power supply.

1. Can I just buy any 300w power supply I can find that will fit into my case? Or can only certain/specific power supplies be used with the OptiPlex 990DT?

2. If for whatever reason I cannot upgrade to a 300w power supply, would the GTX 750Ti still work on a ~240w power supply?

3. Would the EVGA GTX750 Ti work with my OptiPlex 990DT? I know it takes up 2 "racks" on the back of the pc, but I have 2 extra/unused "racks" under the one that my current video card sits in, so it looks like it would fit I think.

I think it will be fine on your stock power supply.

Make sure the 750ti you pick does not require a power connector. Some versions do.

If the 990DT is a mini-tower, you probably can replace the power supply. However, you might have to remove the side panel retention mechanism to get the power supply in place, then reinstall it after the power supply is installed.

If you can live with the 750ti, that is really the simplest solution though.

You can replace the power supply with a generic, but buy one wit modular cables so you can plug in the one's you'll actually use. The default PSU has shortened cables to fit the cabinet and not a whole lot of room for extra cables dangling

If you are willing to go to the effort, and spend the money, to replace the PSU, then you should really think about doing this upgrade right, and consider a PSU / video card combo that more correctly matches up with your CPU and RAM.

Sorry for the delay in posting everyone. I have 16 gigs of ram, windows 7, and intel i7-2600 3.4ghz processor. I usually just play dota 2 and world of warcraft sometimes. I have a 24 inch 1080p samsung monitor that I use at 1920x1080 pixels. At the moment my games run fairly smoothly but I have to have the settings turned down pretty low, and many of the newer games like fallout 4 I cant even play (my vid card isnt good enough according to the minimum specs for the game). Was looking for a decent nvidia card in the 130 range but I would settle for radeon if its a better deal probably.

One thing to note though, if im going to upgrade the power supply to a 350w or 400w, I would probably be willing to spend a little more maybe like 150 on the actual video card itself (not including the psu)
