Question about political correctness on essays

So I'm writing this essay that is due tomorrow and it's about Asian Americans. More specifically, it is about how Asian Americans identifiy themselves in a black/white nation. So my question is, in my essay, when referring to African Americans, can I use the term black? I've mainly used black throughout my whole essay, but I'm not sure if that is pc or not. I have turned in two drafts of my essay and the teacher didn't say anything about not using that term. Also, the title of the class is "Is Yellow Black or White?" So I figured it would be ok that I used it. Anybody know for sure if I can use it or not?

To the best of my knowledge, black is not politically incorrect.

Actually, you can use the term "black" in your essay. I've written penis many essays, being a poli sci minor, and use the term black freely without having points docked. So just go ahead and use it......just don't use the N word.

Yeah, it's a little different than I thought it would have been. It's actually quite funny because I'm the only white guy in a class of about 13 people. But I thought it would be interesting because all of my roommates are Asian and the running joke is that I'm pretty much turning Asian. Plus, this writing class fulfills another class requirement for my campus, so I thought I'd kill two birds with one stone. It was either this writing class about Asians or a writing class about Queerness.
