So my Best Friend and His wife have her little brother coming up this weekend to visit. Its his birthday and were gonna take him out for some laser tag and bowling. Her brother is mentally retarded so its a nice chance for him to go out and have some fun. Here is my question for all of you.

When we go and play laser tag there are all these punk 12 year olds that will shoot you and then just stand there and keep shooting you until your pack activates again so youll be dead again instantly. They like to pick on calvin because hes retarded and last year when we went he got pretty frustrated.

I want to go and buy a laser pointer at office max or somethign, so that when these little sh!ts are picking on calvin, I can whip out my laser pointer and deactive their packs.

My question is, will using a store bought laser pointer deactivate the laser tag packs?

LOL I don't think you have to be retarded to enjoy lasertag. I don't think they use real lasers, they are computerized and everytime you get shot it gets sent to a computer and I think thats how they get you score and everything. Just get him a baseball bat and then we'll see what good those guns are.

i don't know how laser tag works, since my mom wouldn't buy me the brand name one.

i had some ripoff called photon force or something (20 years ago, hard to remember), and it was basically flashes of light. not surprisingly, a flashlight worked fine.

you other option is to charge them, tackle them, wrest the gun from their grasp, and turn it on them.

that's what happened to me in paintball once.

edit: oh, it might be infrared. you could take your laptop.

my point that I was making is that most of the time he sits at home and doesnt have contact with other kids......

so what youre all sayin is that a laser pointer wouldnt work? :(

edit: Actually, now that I think about it, they stopped using real lasers some time ago.

They currently use an LED spotlight as a targeting aid, and the "beams" are actually invisible IR. Laser pointers won't do anything. A remote control, however....

Wait, are you going to like a laser Tag hall at like chucky cheese or Fun Time? Or just buying the guns?

That's a good idea, or take out the battery.

I remember using similar equipment when I was younger and those did use real lasers. We always used to like push people and shoot them in the eye.....It was like real war. Just watch out for the referees.

BUT the goal is to help the retarded kid kick some ass and that would probably turn the unit completely off or otherwise make it apparent that his EQ isn't functioning correctly.

When I used to play laser Tag all the time (Like 5 times a week, I loved it when I was like 12, before I realized I was blowing a ton of money) the only laser that would work where ones that were activated for that game. For example, if we played team games you couldn't shoot anyone on your own team. You also couldn't shoot yourself (i've tried). basically the only way you could get a laser point to work is if it had the exact frequency of one of the guns in the game.

Talk to the staff. Maybe they can deactivate his pack or something.

We used to play at Qzar lazer tag, and that really wasn't a problem, there was always somewhere you could run to. Maybe you could make it your team job to take down the kids (lazer tag-wise of course).

I only played twice at Ultrazone but I swear the "referees" carried laser pointers that they used to deactivate miscreants.

It's not worth playing, though...too many punk kids. Do they have an "adults only" time?

Yeah, your laser pointer will work fine on those jerks, but since it's a different frequency than the packs, you'll have to target differently.

I suggest the eyes.

Don't be an asshat. It is not like a laser is some dangerous item that he will kill everyone with. Basically they just want to help him have fun. I understand completely. My girlfriends uncle is mentally handicapped, and we always take him to the movies, which is why I have seen like every kids movie that has ever come out in the last 3 years. It is really great what you are doing, it does really help to get him out of the house and do stuff.

without knowing the frequency response of the pack sensors, there's nothing you can do. whether it's based on IR or laser, you'd still have to know the proper wevelength, which varies greatly by brand, place you play, and even team you're on. you'll have to explain your problem to the people that run the place to see if they can help you.

i used to run a traveling lasertag arena.
