Question about platters

More platters could possibly mean more heat and longer seek times in drives with the same platter density, but only a single platter. Right now it seems kind of a tradeoff because drives are arriving with denser platters, so they don't need 5 platters like the 75gb IBM 45GXP. However, as a general rule it takes longer to seek data on a platter with a higher density.

How does the seek time on an older drive like the 75gb IBM 45GXP compare with newer drives? I'd assume the new ones are faster even though the platters are denser.
