Question about placing a subwoofer

ndee

Lifer
Inspired by SaltBoy's post about his neighbor. If I would place the sub on the ground, but on a special thingie(something carpet-like) which catches the vibrations, it would be a lot easier for my neighbors, right? I'm asking this cuz I'm in the market for a 5.1 system 🙂

Thanks everyone.

You can try to isolate it from the floor by putting down a slab of granite or marble, and then putting the sub on top using spikes. I doubt it would do much for stopping the bass from reaching your neighbors, but it might make it sound better.

I just don't want to vibrate the neighbors ceiling directly. 🙂

Technically, it depends on how you define "easier."

your point is?

Also stick it in a corner that way yor bass can reflectc off the wall, that may incease your volume by 1 octave.

corner loading you will hear a huge jump in sound volume

Why is that actually? Cuz it gets bounced of the walls a couple more times? Doesn't the Bass then only come from one side?

There's really no way to hide sound from a sub. I hear if you put a neoprene on the walls/floor (in your case) and then some studio foam, it should help, but isn't cheap. Basically you're going to have to cut a deal with your neighbors on when you can be loud and after that, turn it down a lot
