I just had my landline cancelled Monday. As expected, I can't call out, caller id doesn't work, etc. But I'm still receiving calls. Is this normal?

I've experienced this on a cellphone number transfer a few years ago as well. Definitely with an AT&T landline in '03 or '05 when switching to Vonage. But I've never canceled a line before so not too sure.

I think that's abnormal. I thought they would allow only outgoing calls -- and only to emergency numbers.

That's exactly what I thought also. I'm still getting DSL, so maybe that makes some difference? I'll probably have to call CenturyLink. These stupid companies can't accept that people don't want their services anymore.

If you're getting DSL then you've still got a signal down the line. They've turned off your dial tone so you don't have "service" anymore.

Why should they block telemarketers from calling you if you keep a phone attached to the landline? Isn't that the nature of the beast's beast?
