Question about paypal dispute from an ebay buyer

Earlier yesterday an ebay buyer opened a dispute for an item "not as described" against me. The entire issue is stupid and unnecessary and I'm trying to get it sorted out. The buyer has asked for a small partial refund of the money but paypal shows a hold for the entire sum and comes up as a negative value on my paypal account summary. My question is, will paypal take the entire sum of money back out of my bank account until the issue is resolved? Or will paypal just show a negative balance and take funds out after the dispute is conclusive? I'm asking because the total is a relatively large sum of money and I really don't want to hassle myself with fund transfers back and for between my bank account and paypal. Thanks!

pretty sure they won't take it from your account even if they decide against you. I think you'll just have a negative balance. I *think*

They won't take the money out of your bank until a decision is made, unfortunately if you want to buy something via PayPl, then they WILL make you transfer the entire negative balance plus your purchase amount. So don't buy anything with PayPal until it's resolved.

Also, due to PayPal and eBay's BS about treating buyers better than sellers, you have almost no choice but to give the asshat his partial refund. If you try to resolve it in your favor you'll probably lose and end up having to refund the entire order.

If it's a large amount of money and the guy is trying to scam you (as most of these "item not as described" jerkoffs are) then I suggest fucking PayPal and closing the bank account(s) and debit/credit card(s) attached to your account. There's not much they can do. Change your eBay username and make a new PayPal account with a slightly different address (change Ave. to Avenue, etc.), new bank account, and what ever other information you can alter. It worked for me with no problems.

Hope it works out well for you.

Unless they changed the rules (probably), Paypal can't take money from any of your connected account sources without your authorization (meaning you have to approve the transfer of $xx.xx to Paypal, they can't just start a withdrawl process on their own).
