Question about past work history on resume

While I have been at my current job, one of my past employers went out of business and one was bought out.

One company I used to work for went out of business. I worked there for 3 years. It was some good experience, but now future employers have no way to check my references.

Maybe I could get the phone number to my supervisor and have employers call him? But then again, he no longer works there and may not want to be bothered with reference calls.

Another company was bought out and renamed. Do I list the old company name, new name, or something like old name / new name?

I am looking for a new job. Been putting my resume in at tug boat companies but no bites so far.

The out of business one: I would list it as it was and that information. Depending on how far back it was, I doubt they are going to contact it, especially if they can get a hold of your professional references.

The bought out one: I would do something like 'Company x, previously y'.

Unless your responsibilities were just incredibly extraordinary, to the point they would feel required to verify, I'd not worry too much about it.

What position are you looking for at tugboat companies? Captain/Mate? Deckhand? Watermen are always in demand since few people can handle the long on/off schedule.

Deckhand?

Entry level deckhand.

I have my transportation workers credential and merchant mariners credential.

It took 2 months to get my twic, but the mmc went through pretty quick. This has been about a 3 month process. Had to get a drug test, physical, eye exam, then send all that to the coast guard center in Houston.

You could always provide links to your various threads in ATPN as a reference to your "work" history.

And I'm sure various posters to your threads could be persuaded to vouch for your analytical nature and your openness to new ideas.
