ok, a P3 550 = 5.5 x 100 and a P3 733 = 5.5 x 133
my friend has a p3 733...and he wants me to check if it's the original one or an overclocked one...
what should i start with ? the temp ?

thanks

Reset the BIOS, make sure that no jumpers are set, take out the processor and put it back in again. That way there is no over-ride.

you should start by checking the number on the chip itself. I'm only familiar with AMD processord but there should be a part number stamped on the cpu that you could use to determine whether it is an overclocked 550 or a real 733. otherwise, there are programs like cpuid (sorry, i don't have a link) that could probably tell you.
if it is a real p3 733, it should be a 733EB.

This is a P3 CuMine, so the multiplier and default FSB frequency should be written on the chip itself. My 650 P3 CuMine has 6.5 and 100.
