Question about overclock detection software...

When I bought my 900 T-Bird, the clerk said the OEM had a 1 yr warranty as long as I didn't overclock. He said he had software to detect if I did... I don't believe him but what do you have to say?
 
There may be software to test the degradation of the signals in the processor which happen normally over time, and which are accelerated when overclocking, but I doubt that there is any actual software to say "Hey, this processor has been overclocked" unless the CPU itself stores that information...
