Question about OC

Hey guys,
Supposedly, I have opened up the 16 pipelines for my card. My question now is, can I get the 520+mhz core speed without any cooler? Or must I install a cooler in first before I can even try to oc it to at least 520? The reason I'm asking this is because I tried to oc it to ~520 yesterday (might've been a dumb decision), and my screen just went black. Thanks in advance!

if you mean stock cooler, you can do ocing without changing to another aftermarket cooler. I oc my x800 GTO to 555mHz/530mhz with stock cooler and ran about 6 months so far.

Did you go up gradually, or just go to 520 right away? Start out at 500, and slowly increase from there. Some gto's wont go much higher above 500, so maybe yours will not run at 520. Also, monitor the temperatures while OC'ing. If the core temps go above 80C, then it could be causing your card to crash.

Depends if you're lucky or not. If you slowly increase the core it might work better. you might hit the wall before 520 though, depending on your core luck.

it's weird...cuz im doing the "find max core" thing, and it only goes to around 480 without having any artifacts/errors! so im guessing that it's pretty bad. Could it possibly be the mobo bios? or should I reflash the gpu bios again because supposedly every card that has been unlocked should be able to oc to around 520mhz or more.
