Question about neverwinter nights

I am trying to lan two machines together to play neverwinter nights, but when I try to connect them it always says connection failed server not responding. I know that the LAN is functioning properly. I can see the server with the other machine but I cannot connect them. Any help would be GREATLY apprieciated.
 
are you running a firewall or a router ? You might need to give NWN access rights or open certain ports.
 
patch them both to current, if you bought the CDs at different times they could be different versions of the game, and wont show up.
