I just ordered from newegg :) and was wondering how good of an OC she will get, and any advice on what i should have orderd. Im hopeing to get 2.6 but im worried about the memory. I know the stickey talks about how value rams just as good so i got value ram but was unsure about the geil and the timeings. I just picked Geil because of the blue heatsinks. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

anything is overclockable... i think... hehehe...

2.4 should be easy. i haven't heard of anything lower than 2.55 with most venices.

Don't expect too much on value ram, but geil, corsair, ocz, and pqi value rams does oc very nicely. I did my ram @ 230 mhz right on the spot.

I have geil value RAM that runs fine at least up to 220MHz tested with memtest, I haven't tested it above that as my CPU limits my overclock when it hits an FSB of around 210MHz.

what PSU are you using, the one that comes with the case? it might cause some problems but yeah venices should be in the 2.5 (pretty conservative) to 2.9 (extremely rare) on the stock cooler

OCZ value VX if you really want value and performance combined.

Im useing the one that came with the case. As long as this ram can get me to 2.5 ill be happy. How much more could i get from the OCZ Value VX. I couldent find the vx on newegg so i went with GeLI.

You may want a third party heatsink like the Thermalright XP-90 for overclocking.
OCZ Value VX can hit DDR500 with loose timings fairly easily.

I've hit 2.6ghz with my 3200 venice without really trying much (xp-90, zalman 92mm fan on low, 1.45V on the cpu). I'll play with it a little more before I settle on a day to day working frequency.

You really don't have to worry about your memory affecting your CPU overclock with all the ram dividers available. You can easily run hi HT speeds while keeping your memory near stock. Of course OC'ing everything is preferable for overall performance but not really necessary.

I would very highly recommend you buy a better PSU, that one only gets 18 amps on the 12V rail (the rail that powers your cpu and vid card amongst other things). Most folks recommend at least 25+ amps on the 12V rail for any kind of overclocking with modern cpus and graphics cards. If you stick with that PSU, be sure to watch your voltages while stress testing your overclocked system. I'm guessing they fluctuate/drop a lot and lead to stability problems.

as others have said, your biggest worry is the PSU - if it doesn't have sufficient amps on the +12V line (absolute minimum is 18A), you'll be in trouble.

otherwise, the 3000+ venice is plenty good. I got mine with a Thermaltake TR2TT TR2 M6 (K8) HSF, which is the cheapest HSF i found on newegg ($7). I also have cheapo 2x512MB Kingston PC3200 ValueRam.

Despite that, I have my CPU OCed to 2610. Idle temps are 38C and load temps are 48C-54C, so all is well.

ahh darn venice. I have a winchester 3200+ and all i can get it to without it failing P95 right away is 2.5GHz. Each time I try to put it to 2.6, it fails the test. I dinked around with everything too so i think it is just inevitable.

I really wish I had a venice or san diego so I could run my 2 gb ram at 1t. :/ Ah well, might upgrade soon if the price is right. 3700 and 4000+ SD's have been dropping in price like crazy lately so we'll see what happens.

BTW, so as not to thread crap, you may need to upgrade the hs/f to something else like an xp-90 to reach 2.6 on that 3000+. Like others have said I'd upgrade that psu to something that has at least 30A on the 12v rail.

you can't run 2GB of RAM at 1T? I thought all Athlon 64s could do that if they only use two sticks. If you have 4 sticks of anything, i know it drops down to 2T on all of them, some even downclock the RAM, so a San Diego won't help you with 4 sticks to run at 1T.
