Question About My Antec Lifestyle Sonata II

I have a Q8300 CPU running at stock (2.5GHz) that I want to overclock to at least 3GHz, but as high as 3.2GHz (I have an ASUS P5B motherboard w/ the compatible BIOS update). But, inside my case there is a black plastic air duct that brings air directly to the CPU to help cool it. The problem is that the duct is so big that makes this case incompatible with many of the aftermarket HSFs due to their taller sizes.

I'd like to know would it be okay to take the air duct out, completely? If not, can anyone recommend a HSF, no taller than the Intel stock, that will keep an overclocked Q8300 cool in a large room where air temp is usually anywhere between 77-80 degrees Fahrenheit? (A health issue makes me sensitive to the cold, but I do plan to install an additional 120mm fan in the front of my case to help keep the other components cool). As long as my computer doesn't sound like it's accelerating down a runway for takeoff, noise isn't an issue for me.

TIA
