question about multi-colored LEDs

my cd burner has a LED light, that changed red when its burning, yellow when reading, and green when its opening and closing. Im thinking of changing that LED blue since everything else is like...blue. will it work? or will the light like shut off when it has to change colors? I know they sell multicolored LEDs but would it make a difference if i used a single colored led?

No, it will not work to show what the multi-color LED is indicating. A tri-color (reg-yellow-green) LED contains two LED's in the same package, one red and one green. Yellow is obtained by lighting both LED's at the same time.

The LED in your burner is indicating three different things, depending on what color is displayed. A blue LED could only show one thing being on or off, and since most tri-color LED's have three leads, the wiring would be different.
