I'm pondering singing up today, would there be any issues with buying a NIB MobileMe from somebody on Ebay and having them email me the sign up info? That way I can get a killer price and not have to wait a week or so to actually use it. I ask because I contacted a seller and he said he'd have no problem giving me the info over email once the auction was over instead of shipping it.

I read about possibility of MobileMe becoming free.

May want to do some google research before paying for service that will hopefully be free to everyone soon.

Yea, it is just a rumor, but I would at least wait until after WWDC. Apple may put an emphasis on the cloud and in the process lower the price of mobilme or make it free....can't hurt to wait a handful of days unless you absolutely need it now.

That's how I bought mine last time I signed up. Worked fine. Just follow the same procedures you would with other purchases on eBay and you should be alright.

I'll echo what TheWart said though.. definitely wait until after Tuesday. It might not happen, but at least be safe so you might be able to save a few bucks if they do let some of it go for free.

Are you sure you want MobileMe? I had a free account for a couple years even then barely used it.

Yes I really like it, my trial ran out last month and I miss it. The email client's sweet, just like a full blown desktop one. I love drag & drop in web apps, something Google will never have I'm sure. The Calendar is better than Googles offering with how it syncs with iCal. And overall I Love the UI and like how it integrates with my system better than anything else. But people saying it might be free? I can wait for WWDC which is right around the corner. :D

What I've read is a lot of the deals on Ebay are people just selling a single account from a family pack, which means they'll always have access to your account. I have however seen a bunch of full single user packages for 50 or less, I wonder how the hell they're so cheap when they're $99 retail and Apple products are almost impossible to find below MSRP.

Mobile me has a free 60 day trial, you should just sign up for that and see how it goes:

I did and it expired about a month ago, I was too broke/cheap at the time to pay $99, found it mucho cheaper on Ebay but was still too cheap to pay $50'ish. If the price drops a lot or they offer a free version I'm all for it. Tomorrow's the Apple even no?

if I don't get a full account I'll fill a dispute. So far I have had good luck with ebay and getting my money back. I guess I'm willing to risk it?

I looked again at your screen shot, I wasn't looking at the Buy It Now prices, those are about in line with what they full single versions go for on there. The ones that are 30-35 are the ones you gotta watch out for. If they make it free tomorrow I'm going to be happy as hell, I'd drop $45 no problem but free woo :D

I hope it's free and then you can pay for a Pro' pack with bigger storage :) Online Time Machine would be awesome!

Btw anything in Green was sold for the listed price

That's true, I think a lot of the deals on ebay are people selling accounts from family packs. That's why I always buy the physical mobileme dvd instead of them emailing me the code (and make sure that they specify that in their auction). I paid $35 last time I believe.

Hopefully, I won't have to worry about this anymore and mobileme goes free!
