question about minidiscs . . ..

I have a new mz-n707 here, and it's my first one. 😀
I heard that there isn't, but I'm going to ask anyways:

-is there a way for me to upload songs onto a PC from my minidisc player via my USB connection? And if so, is it Net-MD capatible?

-is there also a way to use my minidiscs as a storage device in my MD player?

good luck w/ the sony software. I'm sorely disappointed with them on that note, i was looking forward to netMD (i love MD, minus the real time transfer). Real one has a plug in for netmd, so far it's a better method IMO (not much better, it's still realone..)

but to answer your questions, no you cannot upload, and no you cannot hold data on your MD's. There used to be/still is/something for data.. like the MD camcorders... but they aren't really available in the US. And the data drives were long ago.... i remember seeing one, but like $400.

Unless someone reverse engineers sony's netmd, we're sorta stuck (there is something for linux going on, dunno where that may lead us... but probably not for a long time).

1) Possibly, but it would have to be some kind of hack
2) No, ATRAC3 is a compression scheme and you would loose data. There are MD data drives fo the computer tho I think, for example the Sony Vaio has one but I think its audio only, MD data disks are bigger i believe. Check minidisco.com

no and no....

i'm pretty sre u cant do either...

but check out

www.minidisc.org

that place is pretty crappy looking but it has everythign u need to know about MDs.

and about the storage, i think its a totally different type of MD than the ones used to record music.

Damn, that's what I thought - do any of you guys know if anyone's reverse engineered this thing?

Well, thanks for the response anyways. Darn!

those drives are just built in players, not data. You can buy an external box like that for you comp, but it'll run you $400.. retail anyway.. if you can still find it.
