Question about migrating to new hard drive

I'm thinking about getting a new hard drive a seagate/samsung because I hear they are quiet. This WD is loud as hell. If I do so do I need a fresh install of everything or can I migrate everything?

Most hard drives come with a cd or floppy that will include a partition dump. Install new drive. Set it up in Bios. Boot with utility from manufactor. Use utility to clone HD. Pull old drive. Make sure new drive is reconised correctly in BIOS. Boot.

Ghost should do the trick.

Of course, it's always a good idea to reinstall windows every so often anyway, and getting a new HD is a pretty good excuse.

that's the best way to do it. works pretty well, in my experience. well, the seagate software couldn't figure it out, but the WD stuff does, and you could use WD stuff as long as you have a WD drive in the system. download datalifeguard tools from WD's site.

This is will work if my current hard drive is a western digital and my new hard drive is a seagate?
