Does he actually think he is the President? I have read several interviews(Sorry on a 52k connection and don't have time to look them up) where it seems like he is talking as if he is the President. Someone should clue this guy in that it is only a TV show not reality.

Can someone please explain Apocalypse Now to me? Playboy models with birds, a USO show at night, guys attacking the models, the helicopter attack on the villiage(albeit very cool looking), The bridge lit up like a Christmas tree?? Was Coppola stoned during the entire shoot?

No I have not, but I have read reviews on it by guys that were there and most of them say it is BS.

For example Wallace Terry's Bloods, which is a collection of stories from black army soldiers.

Do a little research. Heart of Darkness is a book by Joseph Conrad that is not about Nam, it is set in Africa and the British colonies/trading posts. Apocalypse Now is an 'adaptation' of Heart of Darkness, and *debatably* a very good one. If you actually cannot figure out the theme of the movie from watching it (hint*it's not a war movie like Saving Private Ryan) then read the book.

No someone should clue you in that he doesn't think he is President. He is a Left Wing Liberal and always has been actively involved with Politics though.

Unfortunately, he receives questions from reporters as if he were the president so you can't exactly blame him for that....though, his answers do make great material.

As for Apocalypse Now, go watch the making of it, I think it was called A Director's Heart of Darkness or something like that. Coppola was in a living hell during the making of this film.

Exactly. Apocalypse Now was never supposed to be a realistic depiction of the Vietnam War, so please do not grade it by that standard.

"I love the smell of napalm in the morning. You know, one time we had a hill bombed, for twelve hours. When it was all over I walked up. We didn't find one of 'em, not one stinkin' dink body. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like... victory."

This is movie is easily in the top 5 of my favorite movies.

Apocalypse Now is a great movie. I like the original a lot more than the 'Redux'. The added material just didn't strike me as being necessary.

Hey, this is cool. Did you know that a big enough fire can suck up enough oxygen that people can suffocate? Pretty nifty huh.

Read about the fire bombings during WWII. The fires sucked up oxygen at such a rate that people were pulled off their feet and into the flames from many many feet away.

There was a factory that made building material out of straw (honestly) nearby, so they had literally tens of thousands of the large straw bales in stacked rows. Some local kids thought it would be a great prank to light them on fire. The fire spread to several rows and the massive fire created a huge vacuum of sorts. The guy who was on duty there (it was at night) drove out in his truck to where the fire was and his truck was lifted right off the ground, he was thrown out of it and died. It was huge blow to the community, and the guys who did it were caught and charged with manslaughter. Had to feel bad for them though even though it was so stupid, a prank gone so wrong.
