Question about LiveCDs and networking...

My girlfriends laptop just started bluescreening on boot last night. She got it through the university, so she can take it there to have it restored. They'll save all of her documents but won't tough her music, even though its legit music.

Is there a LiveCD that will allow me access to the shares on my fileserver via the network? Every one I've looked at says it can access the internet, but it would be really handy if I could just boot her laptop using a LiveCD then save everything to one of the drives on my server.

If the Samba client doesn't work, you could always install FileZilla server on one of your PCs (literally 3 minutes), and FTP the files over. I'd be more concerned about mounting the NTFS drive under your LiveCD, especially if the HD is part of the problem.

Edit: I was using an older copy of Morphix Live today, and it required no additional configuration before I could access network shares on my Win XP machines. I couldn't test mounting a drive, since the reason the laptop is running Morphix is b/c the HD is trashed.

forgot about this thread....

The samba client on the Knoppix disc worked perfectly. I was able to transfer all of her documents and music over to one of the drives on my server.
