question about lithium ion battery

Lifer
just got a cell phone with li-ion battery. is it true that i should completely discharge and charge it 2-3 times then don't let it go too low after that?

thanks

I've had the same cell phone for the last 4 years and I don't keep track of when/how I charge it. It still works fine, the battery is still fine. Everyday I hook it up to charger at night and unhook in the morning.

Don't worry about the charging or discharging patterns. IIRC, li-ion doesn't have a memory affect or whatever, so it doesn't matter when you charge it.

I believe it's good to discharge it every 3 weeks or so and then top it off. I read that somewhere *shrugs* I do it on my laptop.

I dont' think the LI's have memory, but i say fully charge it before using it first, then just charge it every night and you should be fine

They don't have memory but you should completely charge it the first time then use it until it is complely uncharged then charge it all the way back up. This will condition the battery. Memory batteries like Nickel batteries will have shorter lives if you charge them before they are uncharged. After the conditioning period you can charge whenever you want with a lithium.
