Question about LCD screens

I intend to buy a new monitor in the second half of this year and I am hoping that it will be an LCD. I will also eventually be getting a new video card too, but I don't have a problem with that. I have the GF4 Ti4200-128Mb and know that I don't need to upgrade that now...it is best to wait on that. I do play games, but really I look at a lot more text and video (high resolution/DVDs) than games. A LOT more, in fact. I have checked on my favorite site, Newegg ;) and I have seen the highest rated 17" LCDs (that is the size I want) but i'm still curious. What is the best one for the price? While it may be a long ways away, I just need some advice to jump-start me into this section. I would like to find a good one and follow its price and reviews til I buy it.

I may need to go to 1024x768 in games before a new video card comes my way. While you won't see me playing Far Cry, I will be playing the more up to date games. The rest of my machine is not a problem. Just check out my rig...it is a 2500+ @ 2.2Ghz, Abit NF7-S Rev 2, Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 and soon to come is 1Gb (2x512Mb) of DDR400 or 433. I run a huge gaming server (www.minnesotacs.com) with a few people so I naturally play on it a lot, and it is Counter-Strike so *that* won't be a problem at 1280x1024 :p but other games might. I will try and see right now before i have my heart set on an LCD. Which monitors interpolate down to 1024x768 the best? I am not going to entirely rely on that resolution for all eternity so don't worry :). I hear the Hitachi 16ms response time LCDs are good and that the Hercules ProphetView 920 Pro is as well...is this true? I'm going to try and shoot for the $330-$450 range, because I am going to be saving up for a monitor but I am not certain about the aspects of a job I may be getting. I am a college student, but this job as a Pharmacy Technician at Walgreens should get me $12/hour starting (years of experience) but I will have to see. That is why I am not going for higher-priced models, because I am not sure how much money I will be pulling in each week.

I don't know of a whole lot of LCD's that look good at 1024x768 as apposed to 1280x1024 which is usually the native res. The Hitach and the Prophetview are GREAT...but again I can't guarentee the low res thing.

Well Most of the games i'm playing right now run great at 1280x1024 (I just found out) and since I plan to buy a more powerful card soon too, I guess it doesn't matter.

Since I've had more experience with Hercules, perhaps I will shoot for their Proview.
