Question about laptop wireless networking

Hi, I need to get a router for next year and I was thinking of the linksys wireless router. I know 802.11g is faster than 'b', but I'm not sure if my laptop supports 'g'.

It is an IBM R40 model, a year old or so. I know it supports 'b', but I'm not sure about 'g'. How can I find out if it supports 'g'? I don't want to buy a 'g' router and then discover my laptop wont connect to it.

Thanks

almost all routers are backward compatible like fiveohhh said. get the G because it is newer and faster technology while B is starting to fade away. your laptop is B but you can add a wireless G card.
