Question about LAN setup with a linux router

I'm probably going to be setting up an old Cyrix 166 as a router for my cable connection, but have a couple questions on setup of the LAN itself. I will be using an Intel 8port switch to share the connection throughout the LAN. I obviously run the cable connection directly into the linux router, but when I run from the router out to the switch, do I use a crossover cable or a normal cable? Also, do I plug it into the uplink port of the hub, or will any old port work?

Any help would be appreciated.

Since the Cyrix 166 will just be like any other computer on your LAN, you should only need to use a standard straight-through cable in one of the regular ports on the switch.

lol, nothing like getting both answers. 🙂

Is one way preferred over the other?

Would this computer really be considered "just another pc on the LAN" even if it's doing the routing/connection sharing?

Yep, it's simply another PC connected to the switch... all you need to do to your client PCs is set their gateway to the internal IP of the router...
