Question about Japanese writing for a logo

For the holidays I have a habit (tradition?) of making T-shirts for a club that I belong to. This time I have the basic design down, but I need to make sure one thing is right:

For vertical lettering in Kanji, do you read the colums left->right or right->left? I know traditionally they are read right->left but wasn't sure if that'd be the case in logos and such nowadays.

So in another words, if you're reading "ABCD" does it read like:

or

CA
DB

Nope, it's for a Judo club. It's made up of sweaty (some overweight) dudes in white pajamas (and one MILF I love my wife very much).

If it is not written left to right top to bottom, all the Japanese I see is top > bottom > right to left. Even in logos.
