question about italian supercars...

so they have great performance-tuned engines.. but WHY do they sound like a motorcycle/ricer-mobile? i realize inside the car you won't get that, but DAMN.. it's just so... weak? i'd prefer a nice big rumble shaking the ground 😀

have you heard the Ferrari 360 yet? I don't think there is anyone on this planet who can honestly say that doesn't raise the hairs on the back.

Because they're very high revving, small displacement engines.

true, dont you love f1 sounding cars?

motorcycle >> giant american muscle >> supercar/f1 >> other cars

yeah, i:heart:motorcycles

Actually, F1 car > everything else...even motorcycles.

Ferrari engines are about the sweetest sounding engine on the planet. Although, I was riding down the coast a couple weeks ago and a Lamborghini Murcielago pulled up next to me at a light and it sounded mighty sweet as he took off after the light changed.

Yeah, but I prefer having a car that can clear a speed bump 😉

i've heard it on top gear... all the italian cars make the high pitched whine... if i were to hear one, i'd look and expect a motorcycle, not a car

i wish that (by some miracle) Top Gear can do the chrysler ME 4-12... it's supposed to smoke almost every other car, barring the veyron... i just wish they hadn't canned it 🙁

Hearing one on TV isn't near the same as hearing one in real life. Sorry, that doesn't count. If you haven't heard a Ferrari at full song in real life you aren't qualified to make the comparison.

haha, no kidding, get that F1 car out on the streets and let it try and beat me on my sportbike. that car will be in a ditch before it gets to 30 mph.

i live in MI btw - nothing like a cheating city such as phoenix where all the roads are like a racetrack.

Why the hell would you drive an F1 car on the street?

That's like saying a KTM bike would kick the crap out of a Ducati in the Dakar Rally. Well duh.

How many people in this thread even watch F1? 😕

I dunno about that.. the Ferraris are definitely undeniably V8ish sounding, even though they are high revving engines... They just cant sound like a sport bike, since the bikes are all 2 and 4 cylinders (with the exception of cruisers/choppers) I can tell (at least when it's not a mile away) when I hear a car like a Ferrari.. maybe not as big a difference as a muscle car to an italian car, but a difference no less.

It's a matter of taste. It's like asking why wine doesn't taste like beer. Yeah, they're different, but you can enjoy em both.

KLin hit the nail on the head.

The engines are properly designed and properly tuned. The idea of "American muscle" is akin to comparing processors by Mhz. Americans will buy the car with the largest engine because that's what they think performance is.

That's the way most people (Ferrari included) like and want them to sound. Which is also the reason that they spend so much time and money working simply on the exhaust note, completely separate of the actual performance of the engine.

It makes me want to cry tears of unadulterated joy when I hear one. Looks like they did a good job to me.
