question about iphone firmware

just being paranoid here, but could iphone firmware that i downloaded from public sources contain trojans (or worse)? i'm not sure what can or can't be done threat-wise, but my friend put me on his dev account for the iphone 3.0 beta, but the only way i can get a copy of beta firmware would be from public sources. does itunes do a check before uncompressing/installing ipsw files (ie is there some sort of checksum)? thanks.

If you get the beta firmware wherever, you can get the md5 checksum and pm me. If it matches mine that I downloaded from legit source, then it would be reasonably safe to say the one you downloaded is 'ok'.
