Question About Intel iBook Rumors

MDE

Lifer
I may be getting my laptop replaced by Best Buy, and I was looking at what they had in the $1500 range. The couple that caught my eye were the updated version of my current laptop and the 14" iBook. Now with the Intel based iBooks supposedly very close does anyone know what they'll be using for video? The current iBook's 32MB Radeon 9550 is worse than what I already have (64MB Mobility 9600) and completey unacceptable. Has anyone heard of what Apple could be using in the new iBooks? Hopefully it won't be made by Intel...

First choice
iBook

My current laptop is an eMachines M6805

Mobile Athlon 64 3000+
512MB DDR
64MB Mobility Radeon 9600
60GB 4200RPM hard drive
Integrated 802.11g, card reader, CD-RW\DVD drive
15.4" widescreen LCD (1280x800)

That Gateway has a beast of a CPU.

It's actually a 2.6 GHz s754 CPU, in a laptop, no less :Q

No idea on the iBooks, sorry.

The VRAM in the iBook is absolutely fine for use on the iBook. You won't be gaming on any portable mac at any decent fps, for a while at least.

That's why I'm passing on it and waiting for an Intel based iBook, if they have decent video. All I'd be playing is World of Warcraft and it just has to run smoothly at the LCD's native resolution.

Hold on. Dell just showed the Inspiron 9400 aka E1705 at the CES.

Comes with option for Core Duo/Solo. With a choice between 7800 Go or the Intel950 GMA. I am not sure it fits into ur price bracked but you might want to wait and watch. The specs sound real good.

EDIT***has a 17" screen****

Best Buy doesn't carry Dell. This would be a warranty exchange so no dice on that, but it would be nice.

You might have to wait for a powerbook then, which will cost around $2k or so. I really doubt they're going to put a 128meg card into an ibook, but I sure hope they do. 😛
