Question about installing new OS

Okay, bear with me. I have 98 SE now. If I want to install XP, what's the best route? Can I back up everything now, format HD, install XP, then install my backup? Always wonder if that will work since the stuffs I backup were install under 98 SE, now I put them in XP. Thank for all of your inputs.

Oh one more thing. I have 2 comp hook up to a router. Will there be a problem if I have one with XP and leave the other one with 98 SE? Thank again.

You should be able to backup everything and they should work fine. As for you 2 computers seeing each other. I've always had a problen with NT and 98 seeing each other. You should be fine to search for the other but doesn't show in Network Neib.

Win 98 SE and WinXP work fine together under the same router, atleast for me.

Just save all your documents, email and such and go ahead and boot off the CD. Don't try to backup whole programs, registry issues. Quick format HD from the CD and install Whistler. Way better then the bootdisk route. I wouldn't even dare trying a Win9x upgrade to WinXP thats like procrastinating about a month before you do that clean install.
