Ok here the deal i have a Laptop that has HDMI and S-VID on the laptop my TV does not support HDMI, but i have a rec that all my vid and audio goes threw to my TV with HD cables. Now if i take a HDMI cable and run it threw my laptop to my REC. will this work on my TV or am i missing something here? I try to just run a S-vid cable to test it out but could not get that to work. ( ran S-vid to laptop to S-VID to TV) played on laptop not sure how to get it to work with my TV though??

Thanks
Chris

you think that's my best bet?So if i get a HDMI cable and connect 1 end to laptop and the other end to REC would this work also? Or is this not possible? Also is there any setting i need to set on my Laptop to display it on my TV I'm using windows Vista Ultimate.

Help us out here, what monitor/tv is it what Reciever

What inputs does the monitor have, if it has DVI then what I suggested is the best idea

If your tv has neither DVI or HDMI it will not look good at all on S video no matter how you pass it to the tv.

Laptops usually have an option to turn on external display

Ok this is what i came up with so far. i have a Sony VAIO VGN-FZ285U/B laptop with Vista Ultimate. i used the S-vid cable and got it to work just fine threw my REC. i just used S-vid to test it out to see if it would work. Worked great my TV does not have HDMI but does have DVI. But my REC. does have HDMI and it run to my TV using HI-Def cables. But still need to know if the HDMI cable will do sound also? if not I'm not to sure what to use to get sound from my laptop to my REC. its just i have been reading that some people say HDMI on laptop do not give you sound i really hope this is not the case? The REC. i use is a Denon and i have a 51" Hitachi LCD for my TV. My game plan is to go from my Laptop to my REC so that way i can get the full surround sound when watching movies ect. But don't want to wate the money on a HDMI cable if i can't get both Vid and Audio from it.I hope this helped a little better.

You can buy that cable from monoprice.com for ~$3.
