Question about HDTVs

Hey! I have a question. I am in the market for a new tv (approx 27") and it looks like HDTVs are the wave of the future. I haven't been to my electronics store yet but what should I expect? What is the starting price like for one of these tvs? I guess I am going to go with HDTV ready (to watch my dvds) b/c I can't afford $2000+ for a television.
 
i got my panasonic 32" HDTV for 1150 from half.com. Nice, comparing to Sony's wega this one has better value, same picture
