Question about hdmi...

I know hdmi is DVI and dig audio combined into one cable - I have an xbox 360 hooked up to an hp plasma.. my receiver is a good quality (but older) denon that doesn't have hdmi or dvi inputs on it..

Should I send the hdmi from xbox hddvd player to plasma, then use the optical out on the plasma to go back to the receiver - or is there a way to split off the audio signal and go directly to the receiver?

If the 360 sends out an additional digital audio stream (like a digital optical signal) at the same time it is using HDMI, then I would probably say send audio to the receiver and HDMI to the the display rather than having the digital audio routed through the TV.

Ther is no HDMI conection on either the Xbox 360 or the HD-DVD player add on. The HD-DVD player conectes back to the 360 via a usb cabel. You can hook the 360 back to the TV threw componet or a SVGA hook up that you can buy extra. I use componet for video and optical for sound all runing into my reciver then back to my Tv. SVGA is supose to be a better hook up but my HD LCD dosnt have a SVGA hook up.
I am suprised that I can get such a good picture considering that the HD-dvd player is actuly going threw USB

I had heard rumors of a 360 HDMI cable in the works but I had not heard of one actually being out either.

Yes there were pic's floating around showing the next gen 360 with a HDMI hook up and saying it had a larger hard drive but it is still just rumors no actual confermation that it will have it.
And as far as HDMI 1.3 I think there are 2 Recivers that come with it one for sure is the new Denon but it is very very expensive. I cant rember what the othere one was. As far as HDMI on TV's go I am not aware of any HDMI 1.3 conections, very few things are Using the Upcoming standard of HDMI 1.3 ( PS3 is one HD player that has it).
I am waiting and hoping My Bulb dosnt burn out on my Rear Projection LCD for the newer and hopfuly cheaper tech on audio and video equipment.
