Question about having a gun in Illinois

I want to buy a gun in Illinois.

One question, my address is at my parents still but I live on my own... how does that work with a gun? If it's registered under my parents address but I keep it at my place, is that legal?

Have you looked up your laws at all? When you purchase the gun they will want your current address, and they may require a bill or lease statement to affirm that you are a resident, or they may just require your drivers license to match that address.

Now I don't think there is any specific laws (you'd have to check) that prohibit possessing the gun in a different household. For people who have multiple houses that wouldn't be feasible.

There is no gun registration in this state.

This.

If you are asking about your FOID, you are required to let the state know your current address as it is a state issued ID, but it does not affect your ability to purchase or keep any firearms if it is out of date. The reason they want your current address is so that they can send you any notices regarding your FOID (renewal, suspension, revocation).
