Question about having 2 dif modems in a home

Anothe rmember of my family just got a westell dsl modem for downstairs on his computer, but I had a dsl of a different brand called speed stream and my internet was connected then when he connected on his downstairs it kicked mine off upstairs and when i got on mine upstairs he cant go on his downstairs. Any reason why this is happening?

I don't think you can't hook two modems directly to one DSL line and use them simultaneously. If you want to share that connection, you may have to use a switch or router or just network the two computers together and do software sharing. I'm sure there are plenty of web sites out there with info on sharing one DSL line and perhaps there is some info in the Networking section here.

Ok, for the router I have a d-link DI-604 so all i have to do is plug the router in upstairs and it will share the infor from the one downstairs?

Yeah I believe that is correct. It looks like you're going to have to connect one of the modems to the router. Then, run an ethernet cable from the router to each of the computers, which will be a pain probably since one is upstairs and one is downstairs. This is assuming of course the router isn't wireless, which it didn't appear to be from a quick google.

I tried this too way back when thinking it would work. Can't connect 2 DSL modems to the same line and use em simultaneously.
