Are gun laws in Maine less strict than in Massachusetts? If not, then what's a state with a lesser crime rate than MA, and less strict gun laws? thx

Mass

Maine

It's an interesting comparison. Maine is 'shall-issue', Mass isn't. That should mean more cpl holders in Maine than Mass. Maine also sets the age at 18 instead of 21, again increasing the likelihood of Maine carry.

Vermont has the most open gun policies. It isn't necessary to have a permit at all to carry concealed. Vermont has about 1/6 less crime than Mass...at least as of 2002.

Texas is not superiorly open with regards to gun laws, and it SUX for crime. It's crime is twice what vermonts is (these statistics are per 100,000 residents btw, not totals). In TX concealed permits are shall-issue, but there's a requirement to inform leo's if you're carrying. There are some other odd twists in TX gun law. TX DOES have a very nice home dominion law allowing you to use lethal force within the home almost 100% of the time. Other than that though, it's not special in the nationin this area. Vermont is the only truly unique state.
