question about guild wars

When I last played, it was just a bunch of people talking in "1337 speak" over the chat channels in the cities/outposts, dancing naked, and acting like idiots.

Yeah, that game is an AoLers paradise.

I'm sure glad WoW is nothing like that... :shiftyeyes;

Lol, thats why we have something called GUILDS, these compose of none nubs who you can play with coopertively. Hence the name GUILD Wars. Sounds like you just didn't get that part of the game, though it is included in the name...

Heh, WoW can indeed get pretty bad too...but nothing compared to Guild Wars, believe me 🙂

Maybe it's the fact that I play in RP servers in WoW, where people tend to be more polite and mature, even if they don't RP, most of the time they are respectful of RPers.

I've got 2 level 20s both ascended (basically near finished) so I've played it thoroughly, and I hated it.

Why would you waste so much time then?

Because I spent $50 on it when it first came out. I'll get my money's worth whether I like it or not.

That sounds pretty ridiculous. If you hated it, why didn't you just sell it? To spend that much time on something you "hate" sounds absolutely absurd. Besides, it was only $50... Why didnt you just move on to something else that you'd enjoy? To get 2 characters @ level 20, you obviously put some serious hours into it... I think you enjoyed it, yet don't want to admit it for some odd reason. 😕

Not one, but two ascended characters. Obviously, he spent time on it and spending that much time shows that he have some type of enjoyment if not any.

IMO, Guild Wars is a nice breather for WoW players, especially someone who's in a guild that has killed all bosses in AQ20, all in AQ40 (but 2), Nefarion on farm status, and MC in 2-3 hours. I like Guild Wars pvp much much more than WoW since build/skill > gear.

WoW grants people armor/weapons that allows them to wtfpwn everyone... and that is quite irritating if you're in the opposing side. Although it's not my place to complain since I was fortunate enough to be in an aspiring and determined guild, I've gotten equipment that allows to pretty much own any class and it's gotten boring.

Guild Wars allows the player to make a build to counter one that may seem too powerful. Also, I love team PvP.. none of this "I got the most killing blows" crap.

But besides that, yeah... you're pretty much screwed in WoW if you're a "casual" player. It's nice to kill people in two hits but it gets repetitive and if I'm paying just to play, there's no point in that. Ahn'Qiraj was a poor attempt to people back into the game.

I'll come back when the Burning Crusade expansion comes out.

The purpose of a video game is entertainment.
If you arent having fun you cant possibly get your money worth.

Sounds like to me that he gave it a fair chance to be fun and tried other styles of gameplay and still did not like it.

Yeah, thats fine, it's just illogical and a waste of time.😉

My wife and have have put about 70 hours each into GW in the last 2 months. Join a guild, that way you can have someone help you out and show you around. I agree that GW is not for everybody and Im anxiously awaiting when I can kick my wife down to the laptop so that I can play HL2: Aftermath (ok, Episode 1) because I prefer FPS over RPG's.

GW is essentially an RPG with a lot of people in the towns. You can turn off the "Local" channel so you don't get inundated with the "leet" speak crap.

Edit: You can pick it up for much less than $50 in the FS forums. Arena.net is going to release the Faction expansion shortly and another expansion by years end.

being ascended is not even close to finished, it's barely more than halfway through the original storyline, and that doesn't include all the additional content that's been added.

And Schadenfrost's description is flatly false, do a search on his posts regarding Guild Wars and you can see he has a personal vendetta against GW.

The facts are GW is a community, there are people of all kinds playing, it isn't hard to find like-minded people to join a party with and play the game. In fact since you aren't required to play in the same world with everyone else, which is how I understand WOW and Everquest works much of the time, you don't have to associate with anyone you don't want too.

But if you feel like clowning around or being silly with a bunch of other people, GW offers that too.

As far as the original question, currently GW has grown in content and sophistication pretty much continously since release, which for me is the main advantage of an MMO, although people like to point out that GW isn't an MMO.

Whatever you want to call it, the game world and challenges are evolving and increasing, which is one of the things that's appealing about online games compared to games where all you get is what came in the box when you bought it.

I gotta agree with Tom on this. Once you ascend the game is far from over. Hell, I got the game the first week it came out and I am STILL enjoying it. I obviously don't play it everyday like I first did, but it's still fun. And no monthly fees is great.

I started playing Guild a few months back but never had the time for it but I recently started playing again and I like it. More than WoW anyway.
