I Have A Gigabyte GA-7ZM and have heard you can not do anything to overclock it except change the FSB.. Is this True? I was always under the impression that you could unlock the CPU and change the factors there.. Can anyone clear this up for me? I would like to OC my Duron 750 to 950Mhz, But If all I can change is the FSB.. then thats just not possible... right?

as you obviously know there are 2 forms of overclocking, fsb and multiplier. to overclock using the fsb, all you need is a motherboard capable of doing this. to overclock using the multiplier, there are two factors involved: the chip must be unlocked (can be done with a pencil) and the motherboard must be able to manipulate the multiplier. in the case of your gigabyte board, it does not have the capabilities to manipulate the multiplier. therefore, even if you unlock the chip, you can't change the multiplier. basically, you are stuck to trying to manipulate the fsb. (if you feel really daring, i read somewhere that you actually can overclock the cpu independantly of the motherboard but that involves cutting pins or something like that. i have never thought about doing it myself...)
