Question about Forest Gump

It's been discussed a lot around the time of the movie.

First, many of the original AIDS victims died without the doctors knowing what they had. A disease doesn't have to be named for people to die of it.

For a guy esp the risk of catching AIDS from a woman is still pretty low. Too many people out there really have no clue on STDs or disease in general though. The baby also could possibly avoid it.

Now what probably did happen is Jenny went back to being Jenny after her and Forrest's romp. Once she had her baby, she may have continued partying or possibly that was her changing event.

It's also possible she partied post-pregnancy until she caught something that was now killing her.

It occured right at the time that HIV/AIDS was coming into news, and based on Jenny's response, she contracted it before the HIV virus had been identified. So, yeah...we are expected to assume that she had HIV and later died of AIDS.

In response to other poster: No, Forrest wouldn't necessarily have contracted AIDS. First, they did the deed before she contracted it (the kid is ~5 when Forrest first meets him, and Jenny looks relatively healthy. back in 81 or so, HIV was a death sentence of 1-3 years). Also, in the unlikely case that she had HIV before they hooked up, some people are biologically immune to contracting HIV; not to mention that sexual contact is not 100% gaurantee that the virus will be transmitted to the other person (esp when the person intially infected is a woman).

Ding ding ding. Btw, has anyone read both books? Forrest Gump and Bubba Gump Shrimp? There are some hilarious things in both that the movie doesn't touch.
