Question about flying

So, I'm traveling for business for 2 weeks and I have to fly to Nashville. I'm bringing my laptop but I have never flown with one before. Am I going to get in hot water because I bring along a spare (laptop) hard drive?

Also I need to bring 2 cell phones, my ipod, ect...

It definitely leaves you open to a body-cavity search.
If that happens to be the planned storage location, I highly recommend a non-RAID solution.

just pull it out when you send the laptop through the x-ray machine and it won't be a big deal. I had a spare battery in my carry-on once and that was fun. it showed upon the x-ray so they had to go through my bag to see what it was.

Would I be better off putting some of this crap in my regualr bags or should I keep it all in cary on?

I have the Following:
Laptop
Spare Battery
iPod
CD/DVD's
2 cell phones

Actually I think I'll leave one of the phones here. What about cameras and batteries?

Just carry it all on. The only thing that will happen is it will take you an extra five minutes to get through security and you'll piss off everyone behind you. Other than that don't worry about it*

*Cavity search excluded - you should still worry about that.

Honestly, just put everything in one of those trays, so that way they don't ask to go through your bag (by ask, I mean do).

Shouldn't be an issue. I travel all the time with my laptop, and sometimes have a spare HDD with me.

No problems, you don't even need to take the HD out of the bag. It's the batteries in electronics that cause the most hassle because it just shows up as a black blob on the x-ray. Never been asked to turn anything on in the last couple of years, I think that policy changed when they changed to TSA.

I usually travel with laptop(s), one or more external HDs, various cameras, and sometimes my Shuttle.

shouldnt be a problem. Just put everything outside your bag on the tray before going through the x-ray machine. when I last flew couple of months ago, I had the following:

laptop, charger and extra spare battery
PDA, charger and extra spare battery
ipod w/ charger and car charger
cell phone w/ charger and car charger
wire....headset for phone, earphones for mp3, cat 5 cable, Firewire cable and few other cables

just put everything out on the open on the tray and you will be fine.
