Question about Fair Moderating

Last night I get a PM from Dr. Pizza that says I received an "infraction" point and that I was personally attacking another member. Below is the thread in question

As you can see, the actual personal attack started with James Bond calling me a dick and misquoting me. I retorted that he sounded like an illiterate prick. Please explain to me how a member can attack me saying I "sound like a dick", yet their post is left alone and they are not given a violation. But my reply that he "sounds like an illiterate prick" is deemed a "personal attack", my comments removed and given a violation. I think this is clearly unfair and unbalanced moderating. I was attacked first and I simply replied back using the same terminology (prick vs. dick). If anything we were BOTH out of line, but there's no logical sense that I was somehow out of line for defending myself from someone calling me names and misquoting me.

This is obviously not fair moderating. I was attacked by a member and simply responded in the same manner.

I've tried to PM Dr. Pizza and Eli about this, but for some reason my PMs now do not work (may have something to do with the infraction?). So I decided to post it here.

So please address this issue and fix it if possible.

What are you talking about?

"You read about as well as Comcast listens. Those 3 outages were 3-4 MONTHS of not being able to use my connection during peak times"

That is what I said to Spidey. I may have been smart with him, but it wasn't an attack.

If we went back to the Forums when we did not have to be so laid back, people would not be able to post to complain about language and personal attacks until a week or so had gone by.

I do not show a moderator discussions forum? Under forum issues I see Technical, Personal and Suggestions. Am I missing something here? I def would have posted this in a moderator forum - If I had one!

I'm not complaining about the personal attack or the language...I'm an adult and I could not care less. I understand these forums have an edge to them sometimes. I'm more inquiring about the reason I was flagged but the person who started it was not. It's more about being fair and balanced. We were either both wrong or it should be overlooked. It's not a one way street.

Ok. I'm a bit confused here. My comment in response to James Bond calling me a dick is removed, but his is not. He personally attacked me first and his comment is still allowed. I retored to his comment, yet mine is removed. How is that fair?

James Bond Responded that you sound like a dick. He didn't say you were a dick. You then resorted to another personal attack.
So YOU started it.
But, it sure seems like a mild "attack" for OT and an infraction means next to nothing. Unless you keep up the activity.

The better question might be is why have the standards changed in OT and what are they?

You can twist and turn this however you like, but Dr. Pizza edited the Prick comments and said THAT was the personal attack in my PM. My other comment was not a personal attack and was not removed. If that is the case, he sould have removed both and indicated that it was a personal attack on Spidey. But it was stated that I personally attacked JAMES BOND, not Spidey. So let's not maniuplate what really went down.

It still stands, if saying "You read about as well as Comcast listens." is a personal attack, how is "you sound like a dick" not an attack? He should have also been flagged and have his comments removed. I didn't call anyone names and use swear words. So there's no way that what I said to Spidey deserved that response from James Bond, and it's certain that what I said was less offensive than what he said as well.

BOTH of us should have been flagged..or it should have been over looked. I full understand that the point is really just a warning and holds no meaning. That is not my issue with what went down. It's the fact that they are singling out individuals and not handing the situation with a fair and balanced approach.

Have the standards changed overall? I don't know as I haven't paid attention to their banning/vacation habits and how they're doing things. I'm just not sure why Dr. Pizza chose to single me out. He never replied to my PM and hasn't said anything here. So It's hard to guess.

It actually does show on the page you linked to. It does not show on the Forums menu on the left hand side of the forums. I never visit the main page - I always use direct links and then just use the menu on the side. So I did not know it existed!

Yes. You need to go into your userCP and check keep a copy of sent PMs.

THANK YOU! I'm surprised that's not turned on by default.

JEDIYoda - Not intending to change topic of thread. It was just a side note. The mods are aware of my issues and they are looking into it. That's all I wanted...for them to be aware and see what was going on.

I'll try to answer but a mod probably has a better handle on it.
An infractions serves as notice that you did something wrong. I believe they may have a point value but I don't know how the mods are using them.
