Question about English royal family

RU482

Lifer
How does a woman become queen? Is a queen the wife of a king, or the daughter of a king? That is, can a woman marry into the family and become queen? Also, when Queen Elizabeth dies, who becomes king/queen???

You can't marry into the throne. When the existing monarch dies or abdicates, his/her eldest child becomes the new monarch.
Thus, the recently deceased Queen Mum wasn't the Queen, she was the wife of King Edward VI.
The current Queen Elizabeth II is the eldest daughter of Queen Mum and Edward VI (I think it's VI). The Queen Mum was actually Scottish.
Queen Elizabeth does have a husband. Forget his name....he's NOT the King, though. I forget what title he gets....
Finally, Prince Charles, the son of QEII and her hubby is the "Crown Prince" who will take the crown when QEII dies or abdicates.

That's only for England. Different countries have different "rules."

it is all about the line of sucession....

she was next in line after the king died...her husband is not a king. just a prince.
the next person in line will be charlie who will become a king.

so in this case, lizabeth was the daughter of a king....

i think a woman could marry a king and become a queen but not a "reagent"(sp?) which means the 'head of the kingdom'.
lizabeth is the head of the kingdom so she's different (just like queen mary, and lizabeth the first)

another case in the past i remember is that king william and queen mary were both 'head of the kingdom' because they were both next in the line of sucession....

i can give more detailed explaination...but basically that's it.

i'm not english... so i need someone to back me up on this.

QEII husband is Prince Phillp, It used to be the crown went to male heirs first. Remember Hevery VIII, who killed or divorced I think like six women because they could not bear a male heir. The Queen Mum was Queen only by marriage and when here husband (george) I think died she had to go. Heres a list.
