Question about ebay seller strategies

Hey guys,

I have a few games and possibly a computer I might want to sell on ebay. I heard that ending auctions on Sunday night is usually the best time so I was thinking of listing some items tomorrow and having a 1-day auction for them. Will the ending price for a 1-day auction be about the same for a long auction for a computer and a few video games? Thanks.

There's never any guarantees with auctions. But what I can tell you is that a 1-day auction may get fewer watchers and therefore, a smaller number of bidders. For example, if there was a 10 second auction, only one potential bidder would have seen it before it ends. Therefore, you'll get a lower price. If you expand that to a 1-day auction, more potential bidders will see it. If you expand that to 7 days, even more will see it. Eventually, you'll probably reach a point of diminishing returns, where people can't wait 30 days for the auction to end.

I don't know about that. Ghostman has a point but usually when I see an auction and there's like 5 days left or something like that I won't even bother to look at it or to add it to watch. I usually just look for things that are ending within a day. That way I also know roughly how much I'll have to pay for it if I really want it. But yes, putting it at 7-days would obviously get you more views meaning more bidders. It really depends on how popular that certain item is.

I find that tuesday to thursday is the best time to end auctions but it may be different depending on what youre selling. For a computer with games id put it up for a longer amount of time since your item is somewhat unique and would need lots of views to attract bidders. One day auctions work best for mass produced boxed items like new video games or DVDs.

Sunday at 7pm PST

Some study I read a few years back said that auction ending on Sunday night have the most number of views & bids.
