Question about eBay bidding

Let's say I bid $50 on an eBay item and I am the current higher bidder at $40. If I later decide that I'm willing to pay up to $70 for the item, how do I raise my maximum bid amount without outbidding my previous bid?

If you want ot raise you previous bid to a higher maximun, this will not affect the current price untill someone decides to enter into the bid

And this is done by just bidding again, right?

I remember in the past I ended up outbidding myself when I bid a second time, effectively raising the price of the auction to past my first bid. Hopefully, they've changed this.

I see what you mean now. 😱

A few years back, I outbid myself when I was already the high bidder in an attempt to raise my maximum bid. I felt pretty stupid. But now it looks like as long as you've bid on an item, the only option available is to raise your maximum bid.

You seriously didn't just ask that.
