I bought a new ASUS Deluxe nForce2 board with Barton 3000+. Also bought 2 512mb sticks of Corsair XMS PC3200 memory and planned to run them in a dual channel setup. They are still in the mail as we speak, but since the time I've ordered them I noticed on Newegg's site that they sell "Matched pairs". Needless to say I didn't buy it like that. I just bought two 512 sticks. They are the same model number ram, but will it matter that they were not purchased as a matched pair? I assume they should be alright, but obviously they sell pairs for a reason.

The sticks I bought (2x$119=$238) were these

The twin pack ($295) is shown here

No... you don't need matched pairs. I'm running 2 different brands in my A7N8X Deluxe and it's in dual channel mode... no problems.

The matched pairs are sold as validate sets that are guaranteed to work together at the specified speeds. I have yet to hear anyone say that they bought two sticks of the same memory with the same model numbers and failed to get them to work in a DC configuration.

[yoda voice]Not always will that work, hmm yes.[/yoda voice]

In my second rig (nForce1, BTW) I put in two sticks of Kingston ValueRAM and it switched to compatibility mode, which is 100MHz. :( I still havent figured out how to run the memory at 133MHz.

Kingston ValueRAM - There's the problem. I bet that if you had gotten anything other than the value stuff you'd be just fine. Quality makes quite a difference!
