I'm getting an Abit KT7A-RAID motherboard and am a little confused about how to setup my drives. My current setup is this:

I have an Abit BE6-II board which has two ata/33 ide controllers and the highpoint controller giving me two ata/66 controllers. I have an ata/66 maxtor drive which is on the highpoint controller. I have a dvd drive which is on the ide1 connector of the other controller, and a Plextor cd-rw which is on the ide2 connector of the other controller.

The KT7A-RAID has a similar setup but the second controller is a highpoint ata/100 thingy. I dont plan to use the raid functionality as i dont have enough drives (only have 1!!).

Therefore, my question is, what is the best setup on the new motherboard given the drives I have?

Cheers

Well I would set your HDD on the primary raid controller and make sure the raid is set to on in the bios. Then choose your fastest CD reader to be your primary master and set to master. Then the other one on your secondary master and this will also be set to master.
