Having said that, I've been following the professional advice for years and still havent been hired.
So maybe you should just do what you wanna do and ignore the professionals.

Just because they never mention specifically that you shouldn't show up at the interview with your blow-up doll and proceed to pork it over the conference table during your interview, doesn't mean that they're cool with you doing that.

I work in Silicon Valley at a very casual tech company -

DO NOT WEAR A SUIT - DO NOT WEAR A TIE

Standard silicon valley software engineering interview apparel is jeans and an untucked plaid shirt. If you want to dress nice then wear designer jeans, a pressed tucked in dress shirt and polished dress shoes with a matching belt.

You are being judged on your intelligence and also your cultural fit.

I get it, but that's so stupid. I had a very capable friend who had an interview in Silicon Valley and he apparently over-dressed and was called "too corporate". I hate all of this vague cultural signaling crap. Can you do the job? That's the real question.

Anyway, OP, I'd probably split the difference and wear a dress shirt and tie with no suit.

I'm not really concerned about Silicon Valley as that's on the opposite side of the country where I'm interviewing.
