question about DC here

FoBoT

No Lifer
the welcome message to this forum only lists these DC projects

SETI
RC5
ECCP
OGR
UD
F@H
G@H

where do the other projects stand in terms of participation? like DF?

out of those seven listed in the welcome message, what is YOUR guess of the breakout in participants, ie what percentage of forum posters (or however you measure "active participants") do which projects? for example

45% have returned SETI WU's
25% UD

etc, etc

EDIT: Forgot to say the most important: Welcome! 🙂

My guess:
60% SETI
5% RC5
5% UD
20% ECCp
2% F@H
1% G@H
2% OGR
5% Other projects.

Just an estimate. But with that you should get some kind of picture. Probably totally wrong. Many of us have done many different projects and some even few at the same time which makes it even more harder to estimate.

Firstly, welcome to the Distributed Computing forum. I hope you come back and post more often.

That is so long as you're not trying to flame, but i don't think you are so you're OK 🙂😉

As for active forum discussion, by far the dominent project here is SETI, and has been for about the past year. Before that, it was mainly RC5.

Other projects like ECCp, DF, G@H and F@H have also had a lot of interest in the past couple of months.

As for percentages, just take a look yourself at the number of Seti threads compared to the number of other threads.

Some of the "smaller", but by no means less important, projects do tend to get swarmed by Seti, but i guess we alien hunters just have bigger mouths! 😉

The welcome message hasn't been updated in a while, i guess it could do with a rewrite and reorganisation (maybe projects listed in alphabetical order?) as well as the Recruiting thread might do with a little reorginisation in the same way 🙂

Confused

I don't know if I'd put SETI at quite 60% as there are quite a few projects, but it probably is the biggest one.

As for the other projects, there are many on this Team that have taken time out to help with some of the other projects, either because there's been a rallying cry for a specific goal, or sometimes just as a break from doing the same project every day. For my own part, I got involved in RC5, F@H & ECCp for a while - basically to help out the Team in other areas and hit some specific goals. 🙂

Some members commit themselves solely to a single project and others crunch in multiple projects - it's a Team effort regardless. 😉

The DF team caught fire a couple months ago. Even though it doesn't have very many members right now there are several that are very dedicated to it. In fact the DF team just broke into the top 20 this week and we are continuing to climb with daily production anywhere from 17th-7th position. The low number of participants is off set by the small size of the project. You would really make a big impact on the DF team.
