Hi Smoke, good to hear your back is improving :), I hope the China trip was fun as well as enlightening ;)
Btw I'd say that another reason it's quieter around here is that a lot of the previously regular members have gained families & been busier with RL. (How dare they!;) errr us.... err ok me too ).

Narzy
I have to disagree with you about when AT DC started to go quiet, it was long, long after the McCowen inccident, RC5 pretty much died then but many of the members moved to SETI or other projects. I reckon it started late 05, early 06.
Anyway I guess when doesn't matter too much, rather how to turn it back, can't say I have any great ideas for that!

Too many projects have weakened the team IMHO.

The projects have become more sophisticated and can handle all the users that want to participate. In the days of yor, it was the people who helped to keep the projects afloat.
Dnet and the pproxy is a fine example and SetiQ for Seti. Times were when the projects were not mature enough to handle the volume of users so people would work on ways to help the projects stay afloat. This just isn?t the case anymore. You can just load up a project and go, no more need for us working on ?how to?s? and managing our own sites to spread the messages or keep track of stats for the Team and close rivals. There are a lot of really good stat sites out there now. This is what a lot of the talk used to be about. Companies no longer allow use of their computers for DC farms due to the constant threat of viruses and the like. The less ports open the better. Posting stats was a way to generate interest in a project and get newcomers.

The net has gone the way of MySpace, Facebook, and Twitter as social hangouts not various BBoards and Forums. This is leading to the decline of all forums.

Maybe we should be moving in that direction too. Does Anandtech have a Facebook page?, a Twitter page? I think MySpace is already on the way out.
Something to look into as a new way of recruiting for the Team??????

I myself have always been more of a lurker, but at one time was very active. I?ve gotten older (hard to believe) and seem to have less time for DC but run a project or two from time to time. I always check the forums daily, but don?t have much to add nowadays.

I sometimes check this board to see how some of the old-timers are doing, but can't comment much on how things have changed here (first post in 2 years or so?).

Good to see so many of you still around though.

One thing I really like about the TeAm is that everyone is very supportive of others and help them in times of need.

I, myself, get a nightly phone call from a TeAm Mate and I sing him a lullaby so he can get to sleep.

As someone who has only recently gotten in SETI, I can say that the DC board has changed significantly from 3-5 years ago. When I first stumbled in, I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do, but I was intrigued by the idea of the project. There were always tons of new posts and it actually intimidated me. I didn't realize that this was basically the grownup version of OT (not as much namecalling, people willing to help without first telling you you're stupid, etc), so I was afraid to ask questions or anything and kind of dropped off. Came back a couple of months ago and it's definitely slower, but I still notice how generally amiable the attitude is.

There's more than one page, it only shows the page you are on. Click on the > button after the pg.1 button

When I click on the > I get:

If I click on the > again, I get:

< pg.3 >

So for the main page, it looks like it will only display the page # you are on, not additional page #s.

Which is a bit of a pain, plus there are no << or >> to take you to the first or last page in navigation. Maybe it's on their list to fix.

:)

Edit 1
Oh, and that's using Firefox 3.0

Edit 2
I tried it in IE 6 and it works the same.

I noticed it changed too, but I'm always checking in here.

I wandered over to Ars-Technica DC forum, and they are brimming with activities, milestones, challenges, etc. They seem to use DC-Vault to categorize all the various projects, and use that as milestones and ways to push the team to advance. I've never seen this site before, but maybe a way for us to push ourselves? (We're in 10th place overall there)

DC-Vault:

I also think we need to expand the TAS concept - why not have everyone part of the group? Seems that the current TAS members could be the leadership of the team, and those that wanted to follow the direction of TAS could to advance the team? Just a thought.

Go to your profile-->personal options--> set "Days back to view topics for:" to a larger number
I have mine set to 90.
