Question about custom build...

Hey all,

So, this probably comes as a pretty stupid question to those of you who know way more than I do. I've done several searches, and come up with nothing, so I wanted to ask - is there a source for parts which would allow one to build a custom laptop? I have seen bits and pieces on newegg, but things like the screen, the casing - things like that - they don't seem to be out there.

Is this because of the non-standardized format of laptops (i.e. different placement for different models)?

You can buy "barebones" laptops which only have certain parts (usually they have a screen, optical drive, wireless card and/or bluetooth, graphics, battery). Then you just buy the RAM, processor, and hard drive for your laptop and assemble it all.
